IPTA Annual Conference 2025 in Brisbane

Reflections from the IPTA Annual Conference 2025 in Brisbane

I had the pleasure of attending the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) Annual Conference 2025, held from 2nd to 4th April at the vibrant W Brisbane hotel. The conference brought together IP professionals from across the country to discuss the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the field of intellectual property.

A Thought-Provoking Program

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from IPTA President Jennifer McEwan, setting a collaborative and energetic tone. One of the standout moments for me was the keynote presentation by Justice Kylie Downes of the Federal Court of Australia, titled “Disclosure of the Best Method – How Much is Enough?” Her insights sparked thoughtful conversations among attendees and offered a deeper understanding of the intricacies of patent law.

The agenda was packed with business sessions, and expert panels, all designed to address pressing issues in patent and trade mark practice. I found the sessions not only informative but also highly relevant to the challenges we face in our day-to-day work.

Memorable Social Events

The social side of the conference did not disappoint. From the Welcome Reception Dinner at Felons Barrel Hall to the elegant Annual Dinner at QAGOMA Watermall, and the vibrant Party Night at Iris Rooftop, each event was a perfect mix of networking and celebration. It was wonderful to catch up with colleagues, meet new peers, and share experiences in such a relaxed and scenic setting.

Final Thoughts

Attending the IPTA 2025 Conference was both professionally enriching and personally rewarding. It reminded me of the strength and innovation within our IP community and reinforced the importance of staying connected and continuing to learn.

I left Brisbane inspired, recharged, and looking forward to putting what I learned into practice—and of course, to the next IPTA gathering!
